Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has been inaugurated as the 6th democratically elected governor of Benue State today, Monday, May 29, 2023 at the IBB Square Makurdi.

Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Gboko took oath of office at exactly 1:32 PM.

Hon. Justice Maurice Ikpambese, the Chief Judge of Benue State, administered oath of office to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia and his Deputy, Hon Barr. Sam Ode.

In his inaugural address, Governor Alia promised to prioritize security of lives and property of Benue people, return IDPs to their ancestral homes, pay salaries and pensions, and run an open, accountable and transparent government.

He reiterated his commitment to reconnecting Benue State to the ‘National Grid’ of Nigerian politics in order to harvest the benefits from there.

The Governor said the journey ahead may be steep and hard, but he trusted in the living God who strengthens His children in their weaknesses.

Fr. Alia said he is not the governor of APC but the governor of Benue State, therefore every single Benue indigene should commit to building a new Benue that all of them can feel proud to call home
