Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, was over the weekend, honoured with a Humanitarian Service Award by the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in Abuja.

Presenting the award to the governor at Hilton Transcorp, the Secretary General of the International Human Rights Commission, Prof Rafal Macin Wasik, said the ward was in recognition of the governor’s commitment towards securing the lives and property of the people of Benue state, and for his administration’s determination to ensure the return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes.

While receiving the award, Governor Alia said he was humbled by the recognition given him by the IHRC. He thanked the group for acknowledging the efforts of his administration at promoting and safeguarding the fundamental rights and dignity of all the people within and outside the state.

The governor who dedicated the award to the people of the state, promised to do more in order to make the state better.
