Makurdi, Benue State: Hyacinth Iormem Alia, a reverend father and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), wins Benue Guber Race with a stunning 473,933 votes, as we expect more votes in the rescheduled elections from Kwande LGA today.

According to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, March 20, 2023, Fr. Alia defeated his closest rival, Titus Uba of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 223,913 votes.

Fr. Alia scored 473,933, more than double the number of votes earned by his closest competitor, Hon. Titus Uba of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 223,913 votes.

Herman Hembe of the Labour Party (LP) came in a distant third with 41,881 votes.

The election, which was conducted on Saturday, March 18, saw a large turnout of voters across the state, with reports of peaceful and orderly conduct in most polling units.

Reacting to the victory, Fr. Alia dedicated the victory to the good people of Benue, and equally expressed gratitude to the people for their support, and promised to work tirelessly to fulfill his campaign promises.

“The volunteers who came together under various support groups; those who traveled to all nooks and crannies of our state to knock on doors; the poll watchers who stayed vigilant to ensure that our votes were counted; every one of you! “You all are the true heroes of this victory, and your names will be written in gold in the annals of our state.”

“It has been a remarkable and historic victory for our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).” “I am in no doubt at all about the enormity of the challenges that lie ahead and what this victory means in the face of these challenges.”

“My dear people, this victory belongs to you.” It belongs to all of you who thirst for the dividends of democracy. “And by this victory, the liberation we have all yearned for is at hand.”

“From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the good people of Benue State for entrusting me with this mandate. “I promise to work hard to bring the dividends of democracy to every part of the state,” he said.

He also called on his opponents to join hands with him in moving the state forward, saying, “I extend a hand of fellowship to my opponents and urge them to join hands with me in building a better and greater Benue State.”

“I would like to congratulate my opponents from the other parties for making it an interesting contest.” But the anxious period in politics is over. “Now is the time to unite and face the challenges of development.”

“Our state, Benue, needs a total reset!” Governance in our state has hit a historic low. “This election is a mandate to reform and recalibrate governance in Benue.”

Meanwhile, Uba, in a statement through his media aide, congratulated Fr. Alia on his victory and urged him to be magnanimous in victory.

“I congratulate Reverend Father Alia on his victory at the polls. “I urge him to be magnanimous in victory and to work for the unity and progress of our dear state,” he said.

The Benue state governorship election is one of several gubernatorial elections held across Nigeria on March 18, 2023.
