Benue State Governor, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has strongly condemned the disturbing incident involving the abduction of Hon. Matthew Abo, the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, as well as Hon. Iorwashima Erukaa, former Chairman of Ukum LGA, by unidentified assailants.

In an official statement released on Monday, September 25, 2023, Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, reported that Hon. Abo was forcibly taken away from his residence in Sankara around 8 pm on Sunday, while Hon. Erukaa had been abducted the day before.

The abductors, whose identities remain unknown, have transported the victims to undisclosed locations. As of the time of the statement, the kidnappers had established contact with Hon. Erukaa’s family, while no communication had been made with Hon. Abo’s family.

Governor Alia unequivocally condemned this reprehensible act of abduction, emphasizing that there is no moral justification for such a heinous crime against innocent individuals. In response to this distressing situation, the governor has taken swift action by instructing security agencies to take all necessary measures to secure the safe release of the victims.

Governor Alia’s commitment to the safety and well-being of every Benue citizen is commendable.

He reassures the families of the abducted individuals that no effort will be spared in ensuring their prompt and secure return.

Additionally, he calls upon the people of the state to remain calm, affirming that his administration is fully dedicated to making Benue a safe haven for all its residents.
