Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia, a Catholic priest, has been declared the winner of the 2022 Benue State All Progressives Congress Governorship Primaries.
The 2022 governorship primary election has been described as the most keenly contested election in the history of Benue State.
This is similar to how the various contestants’ campaigns thrived on high-level strategic approaches, tactics, and sophistry, as well as political advertisements that could bring down their opponents in the race.
He emerged as the candidate of the party through the direct mode of primary elections. Having competed with 12 others, he pulled in a total of 526,807 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dr. Matthias Byuan, with 133,816 votes.
Dr. Peter Ojie, who is in charge of the Benue State 2022 Governorship Primaries, made the announcement at the Collation Center for the primaries at the state party office in Makurdi.
Fr. Alia, who is the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, will face many others in the 2023 general elections, including the incumbent Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, who is also the People’s Democratic Party governorship candidate.
