Benue State, Nigeria – In a fiercely contested gubernatorial election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has emerged victorious in his polling unit, ward, and local government and is on course for victory in Benue State.
This is according to the official results uploaded on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IREV) after the conclusion of the election on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
The APC candidate defeated his main opponents, Titus Uba of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Herman Hembe of the Labour Party (LP), in what was described as a keenly contested election.
According to the official results on the IREV portal, the APC candidate polled a total of 420 votes, while the PDP candidate got only 1 vote, and the LP candidate scored zero votes in Fr. Hyacinth Alia’s polling unit in the governorship election.
Fr. Hyacinth Alia is also leading across the state by a wide margin, according to the official uploaded results on the IREV portal so far. As at the time of writing this report, 4312 out of the 5102 total polling units in Benue State were uploaded on the IREV portal, amounting to 84.52% of the total polling units in Benue State.
The APC candidate expressed his gratitude to the people of his polling unit and Benue for the confidence they have shown in him and pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that the people of Benue State enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Fr. Hyacinth Alia made this known shortly after casting his vote to a crowd of journalists and media houses that came to witness the governorship and house of assembly elections in his polling unit yesterday.
He equally commended the National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for a seamless exercise.
The election in Benue State was keenly contested by the major political parties, with each candidate promising to address the various challenges facing the state.
The outcome of the election has been described as a reflection of the wishes of the good people of Benue State, who have spoken through the ballot box. The successful conduct of the election has also been hailed by observers as free, fair, and credible.
At the moment, 11 local government areas have reported their results, and Fr. Hyacinth Alia of the APC is leading with an impressive 194,555 votes.
The opposition PDP has garnered 99,860 votes, which means that the margin of lead for the APC is a massive 94,695 votes!
This is a clear indication that the people are in favor of the APC and their vision for a greater Benue.
Although there is a brief pause in the announcements, we can all look forward to the resumption at 5 p.m.
